About Me

Aidan C. Hosein

Hosein rhymes with Cosine

My name is Aidan Hosein, I am a first-year Political Science major from Toronto, Ontario. Although my family and I now live in Toronto, I grew up in Oakville, Ontario, and also lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia for two years. After graduating from high school at St. Andrew’s College (Aurora, ON) in June of 2018, I continued my pursuit of a college hockey opportunity and played two years of junior ‘A’ hockey. I had the special privilege of playing in Vernon, British Columbia; Montreal, Quebec; and Brockville, Ontario. Although my hockey journey has been personal to me, I’m also a triplet and have an older sister. The four of us, along with my two parents, and countless number of pets (literally we’ve had more than 20 pets and I’ve lost count at this point) make up the Hosein family.

When I was looking at potential schools for my post-secondary experience, I knew I didn’t want a basic degree just like any other. I wanted to be really involved in my learning experience, and in a rigorous program that I was actually passionate about. Furthermore, I wanted to be in a place where I could be really curious, explorational, and expressive; meet likeminded ambitious young adults; and play hockey at a high-end level if the opportunity came about. Needless to say when I found the University of New England, I knew I couldn’t go to school anywhere else. Since arriving on campus for the first time in August, I can unequivocally say the school is everything I dreamed and more. The people here; my classes and professors; and the exciting and engaging pathway of my major have all been reassuring signs that UNE is the perfect fit for me. After UNE, I hope to one day continue my education with a joint J.D.-MBA or begin working in the fields of health policy and/or law.

At the University of New England, I’ll be playing Varsity Men’s Ice Hockey, and above that I am greatly interested in eventually joining the student government and exploring other clubs and organizations that might interest me. In addition to being a hockey goaltender, I have also played the cello for most of my life, and I am fluent in French.
